Walter Whitman fue el primer poeta reconocido que practicó el verso libre, forma poética que se aleja de la rima y la métrica. Su influencia es decisiva en la poesía moderna, y se caracterizó por sus propuestas liberales, tanto sociales como morales. También escribió ensayos periodísticos de corte político. A 196 años del nacimiento de uno de los más respetados poetas en el mundo de las letras estadounidenses, le rendimos un homenaje sonoro con la lectura de fragmentos de su mítica obra Hojas de hierba, en voz de Sergio de Alva y Óscar Chávez.
